BronzeLens, in Partnership with Georgia Lottery, Announces “Lights, Camera, Georgia”

20 Day Film Competition Begins May 14, 2013

Get your camera and your crew, and get to filming, because the Georgia Lottery, in honor of their 20th anniversary, has partnered with BronzeLens Film Festival to award $20,000 in prizes for filmmakers who can create compelling short films! You have 20 days to make a short film up to 20 minutes long. You can choose from one of the Contest Themes, then write, direct, edit and upload your short film.

Here are the Contest Themes:

  • Hope Scholars (to learn about Hope scholars click here)
  • Pre-K students (to learn about Pre-K click here)
  • Georgia Lottery 20th Anniversary
  • When Georgians Play, Our Students Win
  • Winning

Mandatory dialogue: "Today could be the day"

The entry period begins May 14, 2013, and ends, June 3, 2013 at 6pm.The three top winners will receive cash prizes totaling $20,000:

  • 1st Place: $10,000
  • 2nd Place: $5,000
  • 3rd Place: $5,000

Additionally, winners will be automatically selected to have their film screened and to receive an All-Access Pass for the 2013 BronzeLens Film Festival.

Entries will be judged by a celebrity panel, including actress Persia White of "Girlfriends", producer/director Roger Bobb, and director of Georgia's Film and Entertainment Division Lee Thomas.

Actress and musician Persia White is known for playing Lynn Searcy on the long-running sitcom "Girlfriends" and her re-occurring role on "Vampire Diaries". She is the producer of the award-winning documentary earthlings.   Roger Bobb is the President and CEO of BobbCat Films, a film and television production company based in Atlanta, GA. Bobb served as the Executive Vice President of Tyler Perry Studios. Currently, he is the executive producer and director of the new TVOne hit sitcom “The Rickey Smiley Show.” The show premiered as the highest rated show in TV One’s history.   Lee Thomas is the director of the Georgia Film, Music, & Digital Entertainment Division. She is an Atlanta native and graduate of University of Georgia and holds a master's degree from Georgia State University.

2013 BronzeLens Announces Calls For Entries


BronzeLens Awards Host Wendy Raquel Robinson of BET’s The Game congratulates Donna Hunter, Nia Hill and Shannon Nash, whose film, Colored My Mind: The Diagnosis, won the award for BronzeLens 2012 Best Short Documentary

Calls for Entries are now open for submission to the 2013 BronzeLens Film Festival in all categories. This year's categories include: Feature Film (narrative fiction): (40 minutes +), Short Film (1-39 minutes), Documentary: (30 minutes +), Short Documentary: (1-29 minutes), Music Video: (10 minutes or less), Best Actress in a Feature, and Best Actor in a Feature.

We are seeking films by or about people of color that explore the trials and triumphs of life through the use of the moving image. If your film was shot in Georgia or there are any Georgia ties of your principals (Georgia residence), then your entry fee will be reduced with verification. Prestigious top honors will be given in each category and one filmmaker will again walk away with the Panavision Camera Equipment Prize.
